| Specimen
Specimen explores the function of medical specimens and how they are used in teaching and observation. The images depict fragments of a specimen; a foetus at 16 weeks gestation stained with an Alzarin dye in order to highlight calcium formation and skeletal development. The specimen is presented in a contradictory manner, the circular form holds connotations of a presence within the womb, but we are shown refraction in the glass case or the pins and stitches that hold the foetus in place. The work draws reference to the difficult balance between clinical and emotional values and reactions within medical institutions.
